Sometimes very good things happen for us. I feel I have had one of those moments when I met the team of Gmx, which is short for Guitaras Mexicanias. The trio is young in age, however certainly seems long on understanding how to build a guitar the player can be very proud of.

If I had to find fault, it would be their high-end work is priced too low. Not that I'm against finding a great deal! And humans tend to put price with a quality level. In my opinion, there giving too much away at their current price points.

Seeing the choices they make in their creations astound me, and my friends who have looked at their work. Let's start with the neck. The wood selection starts naturally enough at the top. And what makes it unique is it is a single piece of wood going all the way through the body of the guitar.

And the woods they select. Trees and plants are something I enjoy taking in as I do my work around the world. I have seen more than a few different trees and woods in my lifetime. I have never seen material like This!

Just touching the wood brought waves of excitement through my body!

And not being a serious guitar player, they had to point out to me some design choices they made. Certainly I noticed the oxymoron of feeling extremely solid, while being much lighter than any I have picked up.

My buddy Eric knows quite a bit more about guitars then I do. He has asked me if I looked at the one that had the rather rare black minerals embedded in the body. I told him I did. He asked me if I knew how they did it. I told him, no. His eyes widened as he informed me each stone for the art in the body was hand filed!

Our excitement of this find has motivated Gmx get on with creating a web site, so you can see what they are up to. And I wanted to share this find with you, without waiting. So I did a little video so you can see one coming together.

They have told me they would be happy to share their secrets (which amounts to a ton of hard work, mixed with a little talent), on TRCB.com soon. Wonderful. And in the meantime, a little holiday present from me, telling you about this rare find. I understand this is the only custom electric guitar made in Mexico.
