Taking note of the HP LaserJet P1005 printer is easy enough to do once one stops to take a quick look at its outward appearance. As you do so, you will find a monochrome laser jet printer that delivers fairly good performance with its HP LaserJet P1005 toner, including printing speed and durability. It also has a series of simple controls and it hooks up to most any PC in a number of different ways. That it's also competitive in price is a plus.
As far as that print speed, most users will proclaim themselves satisfied with its 14 pages per minute. While not the speediest laser printer on the market (either by price or within segment) most users will be able to come upon typical Hewlett-Packard reliability. Additionally, pages will feed into the printer smoothly and will come out fairly rapidly. In fact, this device just looks nice and competent.
It's evident that Hewlett-Packard means for the 1005 series to fill a role as a personal-type laser printer on a desktop. It connects to most PCs through parallel port or USB port functions, giving it a decent versatility. In truth, most users today go for the USB port, although it's nice to have an older parallel port available should it be needed. The USB cable, though, is optional, so keep that in mind.
The LaserJet P1005 is also a nicely compact printer, and Hewlett-Packard has set up to work -- if needed -- as a kind of network printer through its included Windows Sharing suite. Once it's installed, other users will have all of the same printer software options available to them. In reality, this printer would probably be used far more in a personal context rather than as a shared network computer.
In terms of the quality of the print that will emerge from the P1005, Hewlett-Packard has done its job in providing a decent 600 dots per inch of print resolution. This can be increased to 1,200 dpi, though, when making use of the included image enhancement technology suite. Most general business applications, however, will be fine looking with just 600 dpi.
Up to 250 sheets of paper can be stored within its included auto load input tray. The output tray -- meaning the tray that holds what the printer has put out -- can hold about half that amount. Both trays can handle a variety of different-sized paper and other media stock. It's no problem to print out on transparencies, business cards, envelopes and certain custom-sized paper stock, as well.
As far as durability is concerned, a 7,000 page per month duty cycle is standard and is probably more than enough for the kind of print environment this machine has been intended to live within. After 7,000 pages have been reached or exceeded, the printer will need to be serviced with minor or scheduled maintenance, but this is par for the course for most such printers anyway.
There seems to be a substantial amount to like about the HP LaserJet P1005 printer. For one, it comes in nicely priced at about $165, meaning that any quibbles over any sort of performance issue will be canceled out by the fact of low price. In addition, it can connect fairly easily to most any PC and can utilize most Windows operating systems. It has nice durability and excellent print quality to go with decent print speed.
The appearance of the end product is where the HP LaserJet P1005 toner shines. As should be obvious with Hewlett-Packard's reputation, their standard of quality extends to HP toner. Owners everywhere will appreciate the cost savings of ordering replacement toner online.
