Testing out the HP LaserJet 3050 printer and HP LaserJet 3050 toner -- which is a highly versatile all-in-one unit -- will quickly prove that this particular Hewlett-Packard model, also designed to scan, copy and fax, is a very nice performer. HP has put effort into including several fine functions and the only surprise is that it doesn't sell for more than its $350 retail price.
The attractiveness of all-in-one machines is that they can combine up to four different functions into one machine. By virtue of this, an entrepreneur or a businessperson will save at least a few hundred dollars by purchasing this single machine instead of four separate machines to handle the same tasks. And although a multifunction printer is actually somewhat of a compromise, it's hard to see where the 3050 made any such compromises, as a matter of fact.
The LaserJet 3050 is a true monochrome laser printer and it also is fairly durable, rated as it is at about 7,000 impressions per month when it comes to its duty cycle. For those who don't know, an "impression" means that the machine has printed out or copied a single piece of paper one time. Once it hit's the 7,000 sheet duty limit, it'll require a small amount of regular maintenance.
When it comes to physical characteristics, this HP model continues to surprise, coming in at a relatively svelte 20 pounds and in fairly compact dimensions. It can sit on a desktop or near a computer as it only measures about 18 inches high and 17 inches in width. It is also quiet enough to carry out all of its tasks with little or no notice from anybody working near it.
Print speeds with this device come in at about 19 pages per minute, which actually exceeds the print speed most stand alone laser printers selling for this price can achieve. This makes the LaserJet 3050 an especially attractive candidate for those who need something that's fairly durable yet speedy. Most of its competitors also don't offer 1,200 dots per inch print resolution quality.
Paper storage is accomplished via an onboard tray that can hold up to 250 sheets. Output is held within a 100-sheet storage tray. This output comes from the printer, copier or the fax machine. Speaking of faxes, the 3050 includes a 33.6 kb per second fax modem and it can also store up to 110 pages of data within its memory bank. This is an excellent number for a machine of this price.
Most everything is connected from the computer to the printer via means of a standard USB port. Additionally, this HP printer can make use of several different operating systems, including Mac and Linux, as well as Windows platforms. Given all this ability, it's no wonder that the 3050 is an attractive candidate when it comes to being able to not only run on an operating system, but also because of its 64 MB of standard memory, which is sufficient to handle just about all print jobs.
After spending a few minutes with the HP LaserJet 3050 printer, and giving its various functions a fair shake, one is only left surprised by the fact that it's possible to purchase this multifunction printer new for around $180 from certain retail outlets. Even at its list price, one will be getting a machine that can handle most of its functions quite capably, which is certainly the most powerful attraction for anyone needing an affordable multifunction unit.
The HP LaserJet 3050 toner is also a major strong point with this printer, offering everything to the user that one has come to expect with HP toner. There's little in the way to complain about with the cost of replacement toner when a buyer does a little online searching for vendors.
