The Samsung ML 1410 printer is an entry level personal laser printer that produces high quality monochrome hard copy for a very low price. It was originally manufactured as a special version of the Samsung ML 1510 printer and it is now discontinued by Samsung.

The two printers have the same schematics, use the same toner cartridges and operate with the same print driver software. Weighing only 1.5 pounds and a footprint of 13.7 inches by 14 inches x 7.6 inches, it is a light weight, small printer with a small footprint. It uses a 90 MHz processor.

This Samsung offering produces high quality black and white text that is clear and sharp with no defects. There have been reports on online forums of some slight banding with the printing of grayscale graphics, notably with PDF documents.

This printer will print up to 12 pages per minute. It has a maximum resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi and a monthly duty cycle of 10,000 sheets. Owner feedback also reports a rather slow warm-up time that can last as long as one minute.

All the common media types will print, including plain paper, cards, envelopes, transparencies and labels. With a total media capacity of 250 sheets, it will print the standard media sizes of folio, legal and letter. It has one auto load paper feeder.

With only one button to turn the printer on and off and two LED lights, the ML 1410 is very simple to operate. Printing functions are directed from the computer. With only one installation disc, getting started is also a breeze. One downside though is the lack of a plug and play function which has caused confusion about the correct print driver to use.

The Windows, Apple Mac and Linux operating systems are all compatible with the ML 1410, giving it a wide appeal with a broad user base. It uses only a USB cable to connect to the computer. There have been reports of compatibility issues with Linux. Once again these stem from the fact that the ML 1410 uses the ML 1510 print driver. Including a plug and play function would have prevented this confusion.

Replacement toner cartridges are readily available on the Internet even though Samsung has discontinued the ML 1410 printer. They can be found for between $30 to $45. They have decreased in price from the $83 price per cartridge when the printer was first manufactured.

Owner satisfaction has for the most part been quite favorable for this printer. At such a low price you will not hear any loud complaints. Most concerns focused on the lack of a plug and play function and the resulting confusion over the appropriate printer driver to download. There are manuals available for download in PDF format on the Internet. The web forums provide a base of user support.

For those who only need a simple black and white laser printer the Samsung ML 1410 printer is a good deal. It produces high quality black and white text output. It is easy to use and to maintain and you won't find a much better price.

Although this printer has been discontinued, you will easily find Samsung ML 1410 toner from any online vendor who offers Samsung toner. Local retailers may not carry every type of toner, which makes Internet-based sellers a great option.
