Convenience may be the number one reason students want to go to college online. These future grads know they will have the freedom to create their own study schedule, while still working a full-time job or attending other responsibilities. For those who are interested, but haven't taken the plunge yet, a new scholarship opportunity is available for a free online class.

There are companies that are now offering fully paid scholarships for online classes to students who have expressed an interest in online learning. The companies and their affiliated online colleges offer students a chance to experience online learning at no cost. There is no obligation for the student to enroll in any particular online college; the student chooses which college they want to attend.

The free scholarship is available to U.S. citizens over 18 years of age, and high school graduates or holders of GED certificates. Applicants cannot already hold a bachelor's degree, or already be enrolled in college elsewhere. Candidates will also be required to take an entrance exam; this is necessary to make sure that all scholarship recipients can participate in college level course work.

One online college class is covered by the scholarship. Each class is intended to meet or exceed college curriculum requirements by participating universities and colleges. The class curriculum is put together by college professors and staff, and is not a class that can be passed without a certain amount of concerted effort. That means that students who receive the scholarship will need to dedicate six or more hours per week in study time to pass.

Students who are lucky enough to receive the scholarship will spend about five weeks completing their class. Normally, the two classes offered are either an English composition class or an intro to psychology. The reason these two classes are offered is because they are usually required as core classes in college to graduate, so they are easily transferable to the participating online colleges.

Although infrequent, some students are not able to complete their scholarship class. However, they can rest assured that it won't affect their GPA at a future date. If a student is unable to pass or complete the class, they merely need to leave the credits alone and not transfer them.

Not every college student can participate in online college programs successfully. Some students do better in an environment that involves people and physical presence. Students who choose to go to college online must have the ability to create an atmosphere in which they can work and study without outside motivation.

Those who want to check out an online college experience may want to apply for an online college scholarship, such as through Test Drive College Online. They may be able to discover that learning from a distance is right for them, as well as saving tuition money by enrolling in a free college course. No tuition will ever be collected, and the only money a student will have to pay is a minimal transcript fee to transfer the credit once they have passed the class and want to enroll in a participating online college for them to use their scholarships online with.
