If you are afraid of the resistance you will feel from your children when you ask then what their plans for the future are because you personally have not met any educational goals you set for yourself, you should lead by example. Aside from wanting to set a great example for your kids, you should really consider furthering your education for the personal satisfaction.

When I went back to school to pursue my Associates degree, I knew that I would one day tell my children that I did it for them. Of course, I would like them to be able to start their education a lot earlier; there will be a lot more potential to reach their goals that way. I am able to say that with just two years of a community college education and I was motivated to reach any goal that I set forth for myself.

I am very grateful to have lived so close to my community college campus. Although there are community colleges in nearly every county in the country, I happened to live within five miles of my main campus. I saved a lot of money and time that otherwise would have been spent commuting. The general education courses I enrolled in were offered at very flexible times. I was able to take Saturday morning courses as well as a couple of online courses and still finish my degree.

While my children were in school, I worked at my usual desk job for forty hours a week. I woke up early on Saturdays to sit in on my course. I was fortunate enough to be out of class before my kids went to their football practice in the afternoon. I managed to graduate and only have to take two courses at night during the week, allowing me more time with my kids when they came home from school.

I was so happy when I was offered a higher level position within my company after I Completed my Associates degree. I learned that hard work truly does pay off. I used the increase in salary to pay for my Bachelor's degree.

I learned that after completing a program at a state community college, I was automatically accepted into a Bachelor's degree program at any state university. I was pleased to find out that I could continue my education online through a local university program and graduate with a Bachelor's degree within another two years.

Although the personal satisfaction I received was far greater than anything else when I graduated, I wanted to serve as a reminder to my children that they would be able to achieve anything that they set their minds to when they grow up. I wanted to foster a love for learning as well as a positive environment in our household. When my children are ready to move forward after high school, I hope that they recognize the power of a college degree and how to go after your dreams.

Once you decide that you will do something, make a feasible timeline so that you do not fall behind. Once you speak to a career counselor at the school of your choice, you can properly set a schedule of online courses so that you can make a plan to graduate.
