There Are An Abundance Of Online Degrees Just Waiting For You!
Online college programs allow students to better juggle full-time work and family responsibilities with college studies, and online programs resulting in a degree are reportedly gaining acceptance among employers. And employees who work for companies that offer tuition assistance might consider improving their credentials by applying the benefit toward online degree programs.
Students enrolled in online degree programs can schedule studies between work and family responsibilities, pretty much accessing their coursework from wherever a computer with Internet connection can be accessed. Students participating in college studies online might also enhance technology skills that are becoming increasingly important in this information age, reports suggest.
Considering the convenience and flexibility many online college courses offer, perhaps it's not surprising that online enrollment has reportedly been rising substantially. Likewise, newspapers have reported that the number and variety of online degree programs are growing fast. Results from a 2009 Society for Human Resources Management study showed that employers these days apparently look more favorably upon degrees from accredited online colleges and universities than they did five years before. Most of the employers surveyed for the Human Resources study said that their tuition reimbursement benefits for online college classes are equal to the benefits extended to students who participate in classes at bricks and mortar institutions.
The opportunity for training has been becoming one of the most attractive benefits a job can offer its employees, according to information cited in a "32 Trends Affecting Distance Learning" report. Most experts agree that earning an online degree help boost an employee's marketability and future earnings. But working toward an online degree might also show an employer that a worker is motivated and driven, perhaps enhancing job security and setting a pathway toward a promotion.
The 2009 Human Resources study nevertheless reported that few employees with access to tuition reimbursement actually utilize it. More recently, the Wall Street Journal published an article entitled, "Some Job Benefits You May Never Get Back". The article, published in April, reported that company cutbacks in a tough economy include eliminating tuition assistance across the board and particularly at the graduate level.
Some companies, on the other hand, are apparently sending employees back to school in an effort to keep them current. Google is one of several companies paying $95,000 so that employees with master's degrees can participate in a Georgia executive doctorate in business program that can help students solve complex business problems, according to an April report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Men and women might also consider continuing their education as a means of staying competitive in a tight job market. Government incentives for people to participate in higher education are becoming more abundant, and displaced workers are reportedly investing the time in online college studies. Some students are said to be participating in college programs that can lead to career changes in areas such as healthcare, where opportunities exist to fill a need. Online degree programs in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects also have been promoted as a means for students to enter fields such as nanotechnology and the environment, where industries are said to have a demand for qualified employees.
In Indiana, a factory worker who found herself unemployed enrolled in online college programs and landed a new job, where with her accredited degree she expects to continue studies and apply the company's tuition reimbursement benefit toward her endeavors, an April article in Lafayette, Indiana's Journal & Courier reported. The new company that hired her tends to hire from within, according to what she reportedly told the Journal & Courier.
