Foreign language requirements in school force students into language classes in order to graduate. Most of these students forget foreign languages as fast as they learn them. They simply see no reason to learn a second language. In response to the needs of our global economy, many now find themselves learning a new language as an adult. Mastering a new language does not happen over-night. It takes time and persistence to accomplish this task. There are no exceptions, because learn Russian requires persistence and time.

Initially, learning any new language can be intimidating. Generally speaking, adults find it harder to learn a new language than do young persons. Thinking patterns are deeply entrenched in adults. This is the hardest hurdle to clear for adults learning a new language. This is also why persistence is so critical to learning any new language. Lifelong thinking patterns must be re-routed so to speak to allow alien words to become familiar. To increase the chance of succeeding in the learning of a new language, set a reasonable, achievable goal. Remember, it takes time!

Not only time but hard work is necessary to learning Russian. There are no shortcuts or instant learning pills to take. It is an utter necessity to learn both the words and grammar to master the language. The first learning step is to memorize vocabulary words. Grammar is best learned at first by memorization. Over time grammar will become second nature due to earlier memorization of sentences and meanings.

Some people pick up new languages very easily and others struggle for every word they learn. If you are one who struggles with learning a new language, it can be extremely frustrating when you work and work yet seem to make no progress. This is the time for persistence! If you give up at this point, you will likely never try again to learn the language. Frustration can be overwhelming but persistence will trump frustration and soon the hard work and persistence will pay off.

People have a variety of motivations for learning a new language. International companies often encourage their employees to learn the languages of the countries the company conducts business with. Many times these employees have little time to learn a language.

Private instruction and online language courses often accelerate learning. Language students generally do better in a structured course. Crash courses can teach the rudiments of Russian and these are readily available online. An extended course is far preferable for those serious about learning a new language.

Taking advantage of our multi-cultural society is a great way to become more familiar with the Russian language. Go to Russian language movies, Russian heritage museums, libraries and art shows or any other place where the Russian language may be spoken or written. If you know someone who is Russian, ask them to chat with you in Russian. Interacting with a person in their native language is a great way to learn the tone of the language.

It takes time and persistence to learn Russian. Immerse yourself in Russian culture to get the feel of the language. Whatever your motivation for taking language courses, stick to it and you will be speaking Russian before you know it.
