A wonderful career to choose is to become a teacher and provide students with a good role model.  There are many different levels available and many different subjects to teach.  Now that we have the internet, online degree programs are available for those who have always wanted to get a degree education but were not able to quit working to attend a campus-based degree program.

If you know that you want a career in education but are uncertain exactly what within this profession you would like to focus on, there are easy ways to help you decide.  A great way is to become a volunteer in a school at the elementary level or at a middle school or high school.  You will then be able to get advice from seasoned teachers and ultimately make an informed decision.

The next area that you should investigate is your states requirements for its teachers.  These can be very different from the state next door, and they usually have age specific credentials that are mandatory.

In order to become a teacher, you will need to earn your Bachelor’s degree, but although it is a four-year degree, it may be possible to finish your degree a lot faster!  Most all Bachelor's degrees include basic academic classes during the first two years, and if you feel confident in some or all of the subjects, you might be able to take the CLEP (Credit for Life Experience Program) exams in specific topic.  If you pass, you are then granted the credit associated with the course(s), plus, this also works towards reducing your tuition.

Many states, due to a shortage of qualified teachers, are also offering degrees on a fast-track, which makes it possible for a more independent degree plan and less mandatory online classroom attendance.  Another way is to continue with your classes throughout the year with no breaks.  So, although it is a four-year degree, it may not take you four years to graduate.

One of the main points when choosing an institute of higher education is to be sure it has its accreditation, which is a way to monitor the quality of education you will be receiving.  You will need to graduate from a school that is accredited in order to take your state exam.

The one requirement that all states have for their teachers is that they have to complete an internship, which places them in a classroom where they can be evaluated and guided by an established teacher   It is a great way to get your feel of how you will apply the teaching methods you were taught in class.

While becoming a teacher is of course a rewarding and respected profession, it also has the benefit of allowing you to take off at the same time that your kids do.  Summer vacation will no longer require you to find someone to look after your children so that you can go to work.  Also, you can gain a profession with a great outlook for the future when there are so many jobs in jeopardy.  You will be able to earn a good paycheck in order to provide for your family! You can even turn to accredited online colleges with the help of eLearners for your education degree online.
