You understand that some form of formal education is required in today’s world in order to have a job with security and earning potential, but you just don’t see yourself getting a degree, so what is left and available?  There are vocational certificates that you can earn online requiring very little time to finish their requirements.

These certificates are now used by many employers as guidelines for hiring an applicant.  They are part of that persons work history as is one's transcript of past jobs along with responsibilities.  Employers consider them a great way to guarantee the skill level and knowledge base.

Should you require a particular skill/ability above and beyond your degree, you can earn your certificate to be put together with your degree.  Any form of training you receive that will make you more of an asset as an employee will never be considered a bad thing.  Remember that knowledge is power!  However, any and all certificates should not be confused with state regulated licenses for specific occupations such as for nurses and teachers.  These professions need to be continuously assessed for their quality of care provided to the public.

In what areas can you earn your certificate?  You can get a certificate in automotive repair or even in the culinary arts after you have attended their special schools.  Another technical job that a certificate is either required for hire or can be earned through on the job training is in air conditioning repair and maintenance.  Lastly, many of the home health aides for senior citizens have earned their certification in order to work as home health caretakers.  This should not be confused with any form of nursing, which the state regulates.

For the most part, completing an online vocational certificate program can take you up to 18 months.  The end result will be better employment possibilities, and the amount you earn will also increase.  There are many areas of technical job opportunities that are trying to come up with their own standard of education so that they can also have a certificate made possible online.  It won’t be long before everyone and every type of job jumps on this band wagon!

It may also be possible once you have chosen in what profession you want to get your certificate in that you are eligible for financial aid.  This is possible with the Pell Grant that includes education obtained at the vocational level through either an online technical institution or a campus-based school.  Whichever way you decide is best for you, remember it is a great way for you to prove your level of skill and knowledge.

Although you will not be considered for a grant if you have full-time employment, you might be able to apply for the Federal family Education Loan Program or FEELP, which is backed by the government.  They are low interest loans but do require that you pay them back.  Remember, the laws on defaulting on your student loans have changed.  As with financial aid for a degree, you will need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form as soon as possible.

Just remember that any education is priceless and if you want a vocation certificate online instead of an online degree that is your choice. You could even turn to a website like EarnMyDegree to help you with your degree program options.  You are still increasing your worth as an employee along with your earning potential!
