Find The Online Degree That Is Right For You!
Trying
to balance studying for an advanced education and holding down a
full-time job is not the easiest thing to do. The introduction of the
online university school does take some of the burden off of the
hardworking student. At least such a person doesn’t have to go to night
school, like their parents did less than a generation ago. They can
study away from the comfort of their homes without directly interfering
with the 9-5 either.
Still,
there is the matter of picking the right school. Some places of
employment offer help in that area, but it often comes with using the
online school of their choice. If one isn’t working for such an
enlightened company, one finds there are several hundred locations
offering online degrees. That leads to a very important question, with
that many operations offering college online, which one is the right
one for you…if just the right one at all.
Whether
you would rather be an accountant, advance your programming abilities
beyond hacking a game system or learning the nuances of the Dewey
Decimal System as a librarian, one can find an online school for those
disciplines, and many others, too. The key thing is to do some research
for right school.
The
first thing to do is narrow down those several hundred universities. A
good place to start is Google, Bing or Yahoo. Do a search under “online
universities, accredited” and it will lead you to a number of data
bases that list over 200 different facilities offering online college
degrees.
It’s
now time to narrow the search. Enter the field you want to specialize
in. It can cut the number of schools down considerably, as much as 90%.
Note that many online schools realize that students may not know what
they truly want to specialize. So see if they offer broad liberal arts
or science-based programs until you make a final decision. Again, the
list will be narrowed.
Now
it’s time to refine further. Is the school truly accredited? Go back to
Google, type the school’s name and something like “accreditation.” That
answers that quickly. Does the school offer financial aid? The school
itself usually will gladly answer that for you. Also, go to the
Department of Education to see if there are programs outside
the school’s for more aid.
Once
you get the field narrowed to a dozen or less schools, it’s time to get
to work. Go to the school’s web site and do some serious reading. Find
out if there is anyone of note teaching the courses. If the program
offered does fit your personal schedule. What are the costs and funds
available for your entrance. Sort and sift until you get that list down
to approximately three.
Have a cup of coffee and take a breath. All your searching and weeding has gotten you that much closer to a degree. Now you need to apply to the online universities you've chosen. You know you've asked good questions and made smart decisions to get you to this point. Apply and you will soon be experiencing the life-changing excitement of receiving your accredited degree.
