There are different career aptitude tests you can try to narrow down which subjects you should focus on and what areas you need improving upon. These scores can help you determine where you should focus all of your energies and which degree program to choose.
I was never the straight A student or the overachiever in high school. I suppose I enjoyed showing up for the social aspect, the tennis tournaments and that art class I enjoyed. Other than that, school was not a priority for me as a teenager. I would like to say that there were moments where I could recall reaching academic goals or making the honor roll, but it simply isn't true. That's ok, most people do not find out what they excel in until they are a young adult. I worked a series of dead end jobs before I decided to enroll in courses at my local community college.
After enrolling in courses, I decided to make my schedule around the night courses offered. I enjoyed the professors and felt more focused in the evenings. Shortly after, I quit my job in a restaurant and found a great position in the field of hospitality. I was a front desk clerk at a day spa and salon. I loved the interaction with the clients and the pride in knowing I made someone's experience a little brighter.
After receiving my Bachelor's degree in hospitality, I started my job search. I landed a job at a local five star hotel and resort. There I utilized my skill set that I gathered in college and seemed to excel. I was excited at the prospect of moving up within the company, which seemed to be readily available.
After a few years, I decided that I would like to pursue a Master's degree. I decided that taking business courses would allow me to acquire the skills that I would need to succeed as an independent business owner. I was inspired by the woman that owned and operated the hotel that I worked at.
After I completed my Master's degree, I spoke with a few of my peers from school. I was able to round up a few core investors for my very own day spa with the help of a solid business plan and a few great connections. Less than two years later, I was able to open up my own salon and day spa and manage a team of employees, an achievement I would have never thought possible just five years earlier.
My online college education gave me the inspiration and determination to go after my wildest dreams and attain them. I am proud to say that I went after what I sought most in life and achieved it. Although I was not always the ideal student, I was able to push forward and achieve my goals and earn an online Masters degree. Find out how you can earn a degree in hospitality.
