Receive A Scholarship To Earn Your Degree In Child Education!

The people of Maine like to think of themselves as forward-thinking. After all, to paraphrase their motto, as they go, so goes the U.S. One way the state does this is to not only provide its share of grants and tuition waivers for the institutions of higher learning inside its boundaries, but is also quite generous about its students pursuing advanced degrees elsewhere.

If you are a state citizen and considering an advanced education, MSGP is a true need-based grant for anyone who graduates from a local secondary school. The grants range from to as much as $500 to $1,500 a year. It is all based on whether you elect to go to a school within the state or outside, as well as what kind of institution. This includes only going to college on a part time or online, although those grants can be considerably smaller.

Being a smaller member of the fifty states, Maine recognizes that all its institutions of higher learning don't have all the possible degree programs a student might be interested in. As such, it has teamed up with the other states of New England to create a greater grant program to fit all students’ needs.

Called the Tuition Break Program, it allows applicants to get a grant for a school in any of the other five states in New England, as well as the State of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. If an applicant is deemed worthy, the grant can go as high as $7,000, depending on financial conditions.

Those looking for a more trade-oriented care, there is the AGC of Maine grant. The AGC is for high school students wanting to pursue a career in construction. The grants go anywhere up to $3,000 annually. To receive the grant, not only will the student need to fill out his/her FASFA, but come in with letters of recommendation and expect to be interviewed.

Besides grants, Maine has a number of tuition waivers. For starters, a very trade-specific program is the Dental Education Loan. Maine will loan a student as much as $20,000 annually up to four years to the applicant. Upon graduation, if the applicant sets up practice in one of the areas the state deems is under-served for a period of time, the entire loan will be forgiven.

Then there is the Maine Tuition Waiver Program. It is only given to the children or spouse of a law enforcement official, emergency worker or fireman who sacrificed their life serving the state or was raised in the state’s Foster Child system, graduating from a local secondary institution. The waivers are limited to only state schools. They are also first come, first serve. On the plus side, it is a forgivable loan for the entire tuition.
