Take English Composition Courses To Refine Your Writing Skills

The English Composition class can consist of reviewing basic English and writing skills like the writing process.  This is an effective writing strategy that helps the writer fill a blank sheet of paper with interesting reports, compositions, and essays.  The writing process can help turn an average writer into an outstanding writer.  The first stage of the process is pre-writing.

Writing can be a painstaking process and choosing a topic can, often time, be more excruciating than the actual writing process.  The pre-writing stage helps writers choose a topic, explore it, and organize it.  The writer has to decide if they want to pursue a familiar topic, or if they want to explore and learn about a new topic.  At the discovery stage, the writer should think about purpose and audience.  What will the paper be about?  Who will read the writing?

Pre-writing provides the writer an opportunity to explore various ways to discover several ideas to write about.  One way to stimulate ideas is by remembering your experiences.  Write a personal narrative about two similar experiences.  Compare and contrasts the events, describing specifically what each event entailed and listing similarities and differences.  This exercise can produce several ideas that could be excellent contenders for writing topics.

Listening to other people like friends and family members can, oftentimes, generate an abundance of ideas.  You might want to set aside some time and properly interview close friends and relatives to collect stories from their lives.  You may not want to focus your story solely on them, but you can use some elements to round out an existing plot.  These encounters are known to generate a lot of comical stories.

Reading a book can help stimulate ideas.  If you enjoy spending hours upon end at the library or at your favorite local bookstore, you can come up with a plethora of ideas by scanning various books.  Books are a fantastic method for amassing ideas when you have settled on writing about an unfamiliar subject.  You may want to use this mean when you are hunting for a research paper topic.

Writers, typically, keep a writing journal.  This book usually contains thoughts and ideas that can be used at a future day and time.  When stuck for a writing idea, reread your journal.  Ideas can come to life after they have set in over a period of time.  Writers' journals offer a lot of ideas for personal narratives for them to expand on.  If you do not keep a writer’s journal, it is highly recommended that you begin one.

Most writers have a loving relationship with daydreaming.  So it is no wonder that ideas are birthed by using your imagination.  If this is something that you do often as a writer, you will know exactly what location is best for you to get your creative juices flowing.  For some, it may be looking at visuals; others find success by mediating, and others generate ideas by listening to the environment.  Whatever works for you, be sure to have a notepad handy to jot down ideas.
