My aunt was always somewhat of a fashion connoisseur. She loved objects of class and desire. She had great taste in those things and a lot of people loved that about her. But apart from all those things she had a weakness for designer watches or to be specific, Gucci watches. She adored them and had a collection that could make any person go green with envy.
Auntie started collecting designer watches when she was twelve and has not stopped to date. She got her first Gucci one, gifted to her by her husband, her boyfriend at that time at the age of seventeen. Her husband is the son of a rich diplomat and often bought her expensive gifts, the watch being one of them. She got addicted to the G word after that and would settle for nothing else when it came to purchasing one.
Her first one was a pure Silver, water-proof, model. She wore it everyday with immense pride. The watch had an enchanting effect on her; she could not take her eyes of it. She took great care of it and did not let anyone come close to it, let alone touch it. Her fanaticism grew stronger day by day and she realized that those watches were something she would long for and cherish all her life.
My aunt would save money whenever possible so that she could have enough to buy a new model and she did not have to, to such a great extent due to her rich, well to do husband who would contribute to the buying. She usually bought one on her birthday or on a very special occasion. Soon all her relatives, friends and everyone whom she knew, were aware of her new found obsession.
When she turned thirty, she bought another model, which increased the number of her collection to fifteen and she had no intention to stop there. Her collection was quite versatile and a pleasure to look at. Auntie also had a custom made one which was pure gold, scratch proof, water resistant and had her initials inscribed on it
At fifty years of age, my aunt was like an unofficial brand ambassador for the brand and her love and devotion towards the brand only grew stronger! Auntie's collection had over sixty different watches, all of them having some unique feature or characteristic. Her collection was so famous that even the press wanted to interview her, and publish an article about it.
An article was indeed published, as a special feature, in a local magazine. Auntie was extremely happy. She thanked her husband for the honor, without whom all that would never have happened.
Now at seventy three, she still collects her favorite Gucci watches. The total number, in her collection is now ninety two. Auntie keeps the men's watches in a closet, specially made for the collection. It is locked, always, and only she has the keys to the closet. She has visitors coming everyday, just to get a glimpse at the marvelous collection. This is one of those family heirloom collections that's going to stay in the family!
