A Way To Get The Expedited Passport Card
Nothing could be worse for an international traveler than discovering, at the last minute, that he or she has no passport. Perhaps the document was stolen or lost or perhaps it expired before the traveler noticed the date. However, travelers do have a solution for obtaining an expedited passport card. In fact, if travelers follow the procedure carefully, they may receive their cards within two weeks before their travel date.
In certain cases, a traveler must apply in-person at a local agency after an expedited lost pass port. Applicants under the age of sixteen or who were younger than sixteen when their first card was obtained must apply in-person as an adult. Also, people applying for their first card or people whose document was previously stolen or lost, must make a personal appointment with their local agency. Additionally, any document over fifteen years old must be renewed in person and any name changes, which cannot be documented, must be accounted for in person.
The State Department has a specific application procedure. Applicants must fill out the DS-11 form but should not sign it until instructed by the Acceptance Agent. At the agency, applicants should submit their DS-11, evidence of US citizenship and a form of identification. Also, applicants should photocopy their identification documents, pay the fee including the added rush charge and provide an appropriate photo for their card.
Applicants should schedule an appointment by calling a local agency. Applicants will have to follow an automated appointment-setting process over the telephone. By the time the call is concluded, applicants will have the address of the office, a confirmation number and an appointment time.
Applicants for expedited cards will need additional documentation. In addition to all other application requirements, travelers will need to supply evidence that they are leaving the country within two weeks of the application date. An e-ticket or an itinerary from a travel agency is usually sufficient to prove the travel dates.
Renewal applicants may apply by mail if they have a little more time before traveling. Applicants should enclose, in a letter-sized manila envelope, their DS-11 and their check for the application fee, which will include the rush charge. Applicants should print the word "expedited" on the front of the envelope and should then address it to the agency.
Applicants should do research before choosing a private expediter. An important step is to go to the provider's website to obtain a telephone number and to call it to prove the company's existence and accuracy. Another step is to check for comments about the provider online to find out what other customers had to say about the service.
Travelers may track their applications for an expedited pass port card online, although they may have to wait seven days for their expedited application and up to two weeks for their regular application. If travelers follow correct procedures, their expedited passport card or expedited lost pass port should be delivered without delay and in time for the date of travel. By applying in-person, with all required documentation and by paying the extra charge for expediting, travelers will have the security of knowing that they will not have to delay their travel plans.
