How To Use The Services Of A United States Passport Agency
Passports are documents that are issued to travelers by their home governments before they can visit other countries. For international travel, the items are mandatory and must state both the holder's identity and nationality.
Although they date back before medieval times, passports weren't regulated internationally until the mid 1980s. Today, a passport from one country can greatly differ from another with a rough standardization. In the United States, citizens can't obtain one until they apply at any of the USA passport agencies around the country.
Worldwide travel cannot be done unless you have a document issued to your name. If you have an approaching holiday to Spain or a romp around Mexico planned in the distant future, be sure you give yourself enough time to obtain yours. Particularly since, recently, receiving these items can often take close to two months or more.
The first act is to find a passport agency close to you. In most towns, the postal office is likely to serve this need. Phone yours ahead of time or look online to be sure this is the case. Look at the country's agency site for local agencies near you. While you are there you could download and fill out the necessary DS-11 page that is required to get a passport. Taking it with you can speed the process up a little.
You will need two photographs of yourself that will go into the document. Often these can be taken at the same location as the rest of the process, although it sometimes can't. You may need have your passport picture taken at a separate location for a small fee and bring it with you.
When you arrive to apply for the government passport, you will need to make sure to take a number of documents with you. Before you can get approved, you will need to first confirm your American Citizenship. Bring your original birth document, certificate of citizenship naturalization, or a previously gotten passport with you.
To prove your identity you will need to bring with you a current driver's license or military id. As with the proof of citizenship, an old passport of yours will work well, too. You may also be asked to bring proof of your social security number with you as well.
When you arrive to sign up for the passport you will be required to pay some fees before your US passport application will be taken. The passport fee is fifty five dollars for all American citizens over the age of 16 and the execution fee is thirty. Many states also charge an extra few dollars for security.
Once you have signed all of the appropriate documents and paid all of the fees completely, the Department of Security will look over your USA passport application and decide whether to approve you. It generally takes anywhere from eight to four weeks for appliers to get approved by one of the pasport agencies and receive their documents. If you require your passport sooner, you can pay a charge for expedited service and receive yours in four to two weeks instead.
