According to Pakistan's Dawn News web site, they are taking inquiries from Americans in regards to the possibility of having Dawn News in the United States. Many of us know Dawn News as the first English language news service in Pakistan. The rise of Dawn News in Pakistan has created many opportunities for Pakistan as a country. What separates Dawn News from other News networks is the fact that it is aimed at an elite audience. The target is also the policy makers and the young people of Pakistan.

You can also see Dawn News's anchors, journalists and reporters primarily as young people under the age of 35. What does this mean for Dawn News? This means that Dawn News is investing in the young people to provide opportunities for them. These youth are not just youth from the streets, these are part of an emerging youth of Pakistan, some of whom have obtained their higher education abroad in countries such as United States, Canada and the West. But there is one key demographic that Dawn News can reach out to: That key demographic are the people of the West as well as the Far East.

What makes Dawn News different from other Pakistani networks is the fact that the newspaper's founder is the founder of the nation. It is the man behind the vision that made Dawn News possible. Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah's vision was to provide an English language newspaper with an Eastern perspective. To understand the news and the circumstances facing Pakistan, Dawn News got it right in pursuing a TV Channel. Speaking in Urdu, it only limits your market to people of South Asian descent. Speaking in English will reach out to the markets of Europe, East Asia and the United States.

Dawn News is playing it's cards right in the idea of expanding to the United States market. But it must have it's online version remain free in order to remain competitive and an open forum for educational purposes and for other viewers to tune in. I am a great admirer of Dawn News. Dawn News must plan a right strategy to be part of the radar screen for the American viewers. It also must be aware that the Pakistani American audience is generally more conservative. But more importantly, it must focus more on International News and have American specific programming to attract more viewers. It should focus on United States and Pakistan ties and also be the picture of Pakistan. Emirates Airlines is to Dubai what Dawn News is to Pakistan. Dawn News must not be just another network, it must be an experience. It must be a marketing aspect for Pakistan.

More importantly, we can not remember the channel without remembering the father who founded Dawn News. Mohammad Ali Jinnah was a pioneer in many things. He was a lawyer, a journalist, a politician and a philanthropist. Despite Pakistan's bitter circumstances during his time, he still had a grand vision for a prosperous Pakistan. It is a hope that Dawn News will strengthen his legacy by helping the country prosper and rise. Dawn News will change the way Pakistanis think about the news in Pakistan. It is the gateway to opportunity for the rest of us.
