A lot of people throughout the world are looking for a way to earn money to replace the income and savings they've lost. They don't want to hear theory, they want a sure thing they can start working on tomorrow.  What can fill this pressing need?

Network marketing and direct selling -- often sneered at when times are good -- are getting new favorable attention in an economy that is seriously reconsidering what has promise for the future.

A lot of things that used to sell are now perceived as luxuries--and rightly so--because nobody has to have them to survive.  Anything that seems overpriced will sit on the shelves until it is marked "On Sale" and priced at a bargain rate.  Times are tough as people realize it is better to have cash than a house full of fancy stuff.

This creates an opportunity for the few companies smart enough to offer the consumer the savings inherent in direct sales

Many people are rightly turning to network marketing as a way to start a business they can afford, but there are many factors to consider in choosing the right business opportunity for an economy like this.

After sixteen years of experience in several of the best network marketing companies, here are my short list of criteria for success today:

* Is the product obviously superior at a bargain price?  Many times this is not the case.  It may be   superior, but unless it is also an obvious bargain,   it is going to be hard to sell under present economic conditions

* Does the company offer necessary items that are in use every day?  Can the product undersell established brand-name competition?

* Are the products in a strong growth trend?  Are they offering immediate solutions for top-of-the-mind concerns people have today: more energy to   compete in today's job market, losing weight to cut medical expenses and make a better showing in job interviews, increased mental acuity, reducing     the need for expensive medical care, and maintaining a younger appearance?

* It is ideal if the company you choose has products that can be sampled on the spot and the benefits experienced by the prospective customer within  minutes.  This works great for party plan sales, too.

* Are you wild about the product's effects?  This is key!  You've got to be convinced and excited that you have found something that is unavailable elsewhere, that it does something really useful for you, and all at a bargain price.

* Do you need a master's degree in science to explain the benefits of the products?  Even if you can explain it, do you think your prospective business partners will be able to?  Choose a simple product line, with quick and definite results, if you want fast growth in your new business.

* Does the upline team you are considering joining have a successful marketing system that helps you find hot, targeted prospects for your business?

* No startup companies!  No pre-launch companies, either!  They are just too risky.  You probably can't afford to risk your time, reputation, and money  to promote a company that has a high risk of failure, as all startups do.  Find a company to work with that has been around five years or more.

* Now is the time to get involved and capture market share, BEFORE the average worker realizes they must do something to create a second income.

* When the average person realizes this "Recession" is far from over, there will be a rush of interest in solid direct sales opportunities.  Be Ready to help them get started with a proven winner!
