Is Google Sirius?

Rumors started this past Friday about Google buying out Sirius Radio, as reported by Zacahry Rogers of the ClickZ website. I have not found conclusive evidence about such a buyout, just a bunch of bloggers providing their opinions on the idea. I would not put anything past Google however.

We all know Google for that happy-go-lucky company who sticks their nose in everything and comes out on top. Look what they've done and are currently doing with Google Search, Desktop Search, AdWords, Google Apps, Google Mobile, GPhone, and other interesting technologies. Could a new addition to their powerhouse be satellite radio?

Why not!

If you think about it, this could perhaps be a wise investment for Google, considering they are already successfully offering Google AdWords for radio. Satellite radio would be a tremendous avenue for streaming these ads to millions of listeners and could be the next way for Google to continue their takeover and real in one of the most highly effective advertising methods ever created.

Ok, so if this is true, one thing we all must consider is the recent merger of XM and Sirius Radio might possibly get in the way. As stated by Tyler Savery in his article, Rumors of Google Buying Sirius, he outlines that the merger deal clearly states that XM and/or Sirius cannot solicit, participate, approve or recommend another acquisition proposal. The terms here might give Google a tougher time with the buyout.

I'm very interested in this possible buyout. In my opinion, taking Google AdWords to the next level and allowing businesses like mine and yours to advertise on Sirius radio would provide an unbelievable opportunity for us all. I'll continue to monitor this rumor closely and will hopefully be posting something about Google's buyout of Sirius Radio in the coming months.
