I would like to ask you about: Which sex is stronger? Men or women?
And by stronger... What do you understand by stronger? What do you think I mean by stronger? Is it physical strength? Mental ability? Health? Or maybe something else?
Do you know that in former times, women were treated like the weaker sex and men as the stronger one?
They thought that this was a "man's world", but were they telling the whole story? Was it really like that?
So, to start with, I would like to mention physical strength. It seems that men's organs and muscles are bigger than those of women and that women only had more fat in their bodies instead, but is that all they need to be stronger? Do you know that the differences of strength are only in an average of 15% between men and women?
Secondly, let's look at intelligence! Who do you think is more intelligent? Men or women? Did you know that a man's brain is bigger than a woman's brain?, but does this make them more intelligent?
Just because their brains are 11% bigger, does that make that much difference between them?
Lastly, I would like to talk about health. Women seem to be more healthy than men, have you ever realised that? And did you know that because women have two "X" chromosomes and men only have one "X" with a "Y", they are protected from more diseases than men? They also have a better life expectancy. And did you know that they can live at an average of about 78 years and men only 72? Women also cope with stress better than men. However, it has to be said that men do, overall, cope better with depression. Also before the menopause, a woman is six times less likely to suffer a heart attack than a man is, but did you know that when they reach the 60s-70s, after it, they are as susceptible to them as men?
So, it is time to look at males and females as people rather than as separate sexes, and so, let boys play with dolls and girls with cars as well... Would you agree?
After mentioning this last point, I would like to remind you of the things that seem to say: "It is a man's world"... (or is it?)
- Men's brains are on average 11% bigger.
- The average British man is 5ft 8in tall; the average British woman is just 5ft 4in.
- Men are 30% physically stronger than women.
- Men have far bigger muscles than women: about 15% longer and up to 40% thicker.
- 25% of a woman's body is fat, compared with 12% of a man's.
So, who is the stronger sex: Men or women?
Or is that the type of question we should be asking ourselves at all?
