This year at E3 2008 there were lots of interesting news and
new games coming out. Some of the more shocking news for gamers in E3 2008 was
Square Enix's announcement that the normally only Sony exclusive Final Fantasy
is now going to be on XBOX 360 also. The Fan-boys might be mad about Final
Fantasy XIII going PS3 and XBOX 360 but the future in third party exclusives is
soon coming to a close. E3 2008 also offered a variety of new games from the
gaming companies 2K Games all the way to XSEED Games.
One of the new game titles announced at E3 2008 coming soon
for PS3 and XBOX 360 in late 2008 is "Mirrors Edge". This game was designed by EA DICE the people who brought you the Battlefield series. In this game you will play an information
runner named Faith. This first person shooter takes you through dizzying
landscapes and uses the fluid gymnastics system "Parkour". Faith also uses the
marital art of Wing Chung to evade and disarm enemies.
News from XBOX 360 is that XBOX live will be supporting
Netflix. This came as a shock to some
and good news to others. The new game titles coming from Nintendo Wii are Wii
Sports Resorts and Wii Music. The big question came along with this
announcement at E3 2008 is Nintendo spurning hard core gamers? This question
arose when Nintendo did not announce any new Zelda or Mario games. They did
however mention there are some in the works.
Sony's call to arms against Microsoft's Netflix announcement
was Sony: Filming. This service lets you rent HD movies and TV shows and watch
them on your PS3. At E3 2008 Sony also announced its 80GB Core Pack for 399.99
retail price.
Sony also announced Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty.
They plan on retailing Ratchet and Clank Future Quest for Booty at $15. This
will give you a 4-5 hour chapter of the game until the next chapter comes out
for sale.
During E3 2008 Konami launched its Rock Revolution game and
drum set pads. The reviews didn't look good stating the drums were to small and
buttons on screen were too hard to see.
Sage brought a game called Valkyria
Chronicles to the table for this fall. This game is strategy based until the
fighting starts and then it gets into a first person shooter mode for the nitty
gritty.
Fallout 3 was also big news with its post-nuclear
apocalyptic theme. This game is a fist person shooter or can be a turn based
depending on your preference. The game is set for the fall of 2008 and has many
gamers on the edge of their seats.
PS3 also gave us a glimpse at E3 2008 of
Resistance 2. The release date on Resistance 2 was sometime in the fall of
2008.
Another big buzz at E3 2008 was Guitar Hero and Rock Band 2.
Guitar Hero is getting the full Metallica album and a preview of REM on their
game. Rock Band 2 has the new Guns and Roses songs and some AC/DC favorites. Both
Games require you to purchase Guitars and Drum kits offered by the different
systems and brands.
