Pubs are getting a bashing with tax, recession and people staying home to drink. Many pub goers now are expecting more as they can buy alcohol from supermarkets cheaper than a pub can buy it. Regular General Knowledge quizzes are a good way to get punters back in as well as also making money from another avenue. General knowledge quizzes can be very time consuming but needn't be if you follow this simple guidelines

<
  1. Getting a Quiz master. Before doing anything else get yourself a good quiz master for your general knowledge quizzes. Even if you have to bribe them with free drinks. When picking a quiz master be sure to look for a good public speaker and someone who can control a crowd. Whilst it's a meant to be a fun evening, experience shows a general knowledge quiz night can become chaos very quickly. If you haven't got someone who can bring back a crowd then you may have problems.
  2. The Questions need to be compiled. You can purchase them as instant downloads, buy books or do your own. If you decide to do your own make sure you verify the questions yourself and with the quiz master not only does this give you confidence the questions and answers are right but also the quiz master can see if they are going to have problems in pronunciations of words. A pre dry run if you like of the general knowledge questions.
  3. Length of the Quiz is important and try to stick with this constant when at all possible. For some quiz goers it will be their adult time away from the children and babysitters are not cheap. Over running 5 minutes isn't so bad but general knowledge quizzes in pubs should take into consideration that you are not going just for your regulars in a harsh reality they will be in there no matter and you're wanting people who don't normally go.
  4. Pick a Date for the quiz night and make sure its on a day that is generally quiet and doesn't conflict with other pub or social events in the surrounding area. Once you decide upon a date stick with it and have that as a regular event weekly, fortnightly, monthly for example first Wednesday of every month. You're building up a date in a potential punters mind who fancies doing a quiz regularly. This will also show you're a reliable pub.
  5. Advertise the quiz night. Be sure to get as many advertisements as possible. You don't need to spend a lot like getting it in a paper but shop, on your walls and on your tables. Basically small business will and should help each other out. Be sure that the time and the date is always on what ever publish stuff and if at all possible entrance fee. On the night of the quiz make sure you have other leaflets, posters or anything showing what else your pub can provide. You'll be amazed how many people don't realize what you can offer. Sell yourself and other services.
  6. Entry fees can be either per team or person. Usually best is per person and be sure to state the maximum per team if you need to. With fun quizzes it is not as important but more serious general knowledge eggheads would really want to see maximum.

Hopefully with this general knowledge quiz guide you'll be able to have a great profitable event that punter will come back to time and time again.
