Themed quizzes can be any era, annual date, a film or a general fancy dress. They can be for raising money for charities, getting people into a pub quiz or a special occasion. They can be held in halls, at home, work or any other social event. When planning a themed quiz it's always best to get the focus clear in your own mind; write ideas down and bounce them off of friends, family or even regular punters.

You've picked your theme now you need to set the type of questions. If the quiz night is themed around fancy dress with no particular specification and giving the punters a free choice then the quiz can be pretty much a standard quiz night, though you can add some special rounds. If a local pub quiz for example why not ask regulars to bring a picture of themselves when they were younger. You could then use these to create your own picture handout round or you can disguise the photos of them for a who's who. When the theme for the quiz night is on an era or annual event then buy a quiz or make the quiz around that. Although you still may want it to be a general knowledge quiz, ideally keep the theme.

Prizes on themed quizzes are a must if you want people to remember and come back for other fun quizzes in the future. Silly prizes are excellent but don't go over board and make sure unless it is a cheap and cheerful night that some descent prizes are mixed in. Give prizes away for the best fancy dress, stupidest answers, per round and then first, second and third prizes.

Get creative and see what you can give prizes for and don't look only at the quiz itself even the best Michael Cain impression as punters go up to the bar is great in a themed quiz. When giving out booby prizes have fun but make sure it doesn't become intimidating to the losers. If they are nervous it could put them and others off for future quizzes. A good quiz master is astute when judging the quizzers, it is a skill to observing who can cope with what in these matters.

Finally marketing. Themed quiz nights should be advertised way in advance let people know what's going on if in a pub, family, or social event. Get shops to put your adverts up or local libraries, if it is a family/friend event make sure they know in advance. Social clubs or pub themed quizzes need to be clear in date, what the theme is for fancy dress, the cost and some of the prizes. Make sure the posters are simple and striking. When doing the marketing give plenty of time before the event in a pub quiz so example give a month or 3 weeks. Get the message out there and give the information people need.

Hopefully your quizzes will add an element of fun that draws everyone together for this special event.
