Times are hard and getting people in the door of the local pub can be tricky. The cost of Alcohol going up isn't helping the pub industry. A standard pub quiz recently have also hit trade whilst still getting the people in for the quiz they are not putting as much behind the bar. The game play in the pub industry is far more competitive with chains of pubs hitting areas previously they didn't touch such a quiz nights. The good news is that big pub chains it take longer to go through the process of change than a local pub. First you need to get the customers coming into the pub and then for them to return. Punters now want value for money, they want to be entertained and feel that they get more for less.

1 Free Drinks and Nibbles
For some easy fixes why not offer free non-alcoholic drinks to the drivers of the quiz team with every round bought. Limit the type of drinks keep the drinks limited to the draft or cordials as bottles tend to be expensive where as pulled drinks are relatively cheap. Instant prizes during the night for answering quiz questions. Have nibbles to be handed out with the quiz answer sheets but make sure you're strict to the hygiene laws but you don't need to use direct stock, as cheaper alternatives are ideal.

2 Encourage Other Organisations to hold their Events at your Pub.
Another area is allowing annual meetings for business groups, clubs or charities even. You can add to this service by offering if they require a quiz specialized to groups that's is often easier and cheaper for them to get quiz questions ready made than do it them selves.

3 Try to Include Different Aspects to your Themed Nights
When doing themed nights get your drink specials even food doing the same. Maybe offer free tasters and get the punters to puzzle over what is in the drink. Ask question to yourself before events nights like are you actually able to get these kind of clients into your pub. Be completely honest if it is a local village pub and the nearest business is 5miles away then it maybe difficult to get them in.

4 Travel Options
What about trying to get with taxi company offering a cheap transport home. Taxi companies are also finding times are hard and are wanting to listen.

5 Full package
Set out questions asking yourself what you want from themed event nights and set out what activities and entertainment your wanting to do and can you afford them. Instead of having a pub quiz why not a wine tasting night, comedy night, open mike and karaoke nights let your mind wander by using your imagination you can achieve so much even on a shoe string.

If you offer something more than your competitors then that may be all that you need to encourage customers to use you as their local rather than the pub quiz down the road.
