As I'm sure you will agree, there are without doubt reasons why people like you and I often fail with regards to losing weight. What you need to bear in mind is that even the most proven weight loss plan can fail if not implemented correctly, due to the fact that this can lead to a lowering of your metabolism, which means it can slow down the rate at which your body burns calories.
Speaking from own experience, I can honestly say that after being on a weight loss plan for a few weeks, I usually become frustrated and irritable to such an extent that I soon find myself justifying a day of binging. Unfortunately though, this usually ends up becoming a weekend affair and then before long it ends up going on for the entire week, and before I know it, I'm back where I was before.
You need to remember that the reason why these diets fail, is because when we limit our calorie intake, our body will immediately begin trying to conserve energy in the form of fat. This is a survival instinct originating from way back when food was not always readily available, and it may have been necessary for people to go without food for a number of days. However, with food now being in abundance, this survival mechanism does nothing more than hinder our efforts to lose weight. Just for one minute let's put calorie counting to the side while we take a look at what else needs to be done.
You need to bear in mind that if your diet is to last for a considerable amount of time, then relying on calorie counting may end up causing you to experience muscle loss instead of fat loss simply because your body will start to burn up muscle in order to acquire fuel.
How can we be sure to reach our weight loss dreams?
First and foremost, you need to keep your mind open and your eyes open as well. One thing I know for sure is, if I had a dollar for each time I started a diet plan, I'd be a lot wealthier than I am now. Unfortunately though, I've started too many such diets believing that within one year I would look like a front page model. What I'm trying to say is, you need to set realistic goals which are achievable.
Another thing which you need to accept wholeheartedly is that a weight loss plan is essentially a long term plan, rather than a silly three days diet, or a one month diet, or even a year long diet. An effective weight loss plan needs to involve a change of lifestyle. By that I mean; you will need to increase your level of exercise by doing things such as going swimming with your kids, hiking, joining a sports club, or even walking to work in the mornings if possible. Of course, if you've not been doing any type of exercise for any length of time, then it would be in your own best interest to go and see your doctor first in order to discuss a suitable exercise program, even if it means you simply start walking. The bottom line is; if your exercise program is resulting in muscle growth, then this will inevitably result in more calories being burnt in order to sustain the muscle. When you reach this stage you will be burning more calories than what you're consuming and as such, your belly fat will disappear and your dreams will become reality.
