Tim was one of the early South Australian pioneers in the shade sail industry, having identified an opportunity to develop the industry in SA during a trip to the Northern Territory with his father in 1993.
Since then, he has become internationally recognised, having designed sails and structures in countries as diverse as the USA, UK, Singapore, Spain, France, the Bahamas, and even China, to name a few.
Tim qualified from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Arts (Accountancy) and worked for many years within the chartered accounting profession. In 1994 he left that profession to join WA Young, the family business that his father had acquired in July 1978 (from Mr Bill Young, hence the name.....)
At the time, the business was focused almost entirely on shadehouse and greenhouse products for the nursery and garden industry, so this decision to move into the manufacturing of custom shade sail structures propelled Youngs into the home improvement and outdoor lifestyle industries.
Tim took over the complete management of the business in 2004, when his father fell ill with a form of kidney cancer, and continues to run the company to this day. He is the author of "The Consumers' Guide to Designing Outdoor Structures", and lives in Adelaide with his wife and 2 daughters
