Is there any value in buying Backlinks?

Backlinks are simply defined as incoming links to a website or web page. If you're familiar with SEO, you know that the number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that page; and the importance of that page will define its Page Rank (PR) in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).

Even though it's important to have numerous backlinks to your website, note that it's not necessarily true that the more backlinks you have the higher PR you will have. In terms of incoming links, the fact holds true that it's more important to have one incoming link from a website with a PR of 10 then it is to have ten incoming links from ten various sites, all with a PR of 3 or 4.

With this thought in mind, now look at these various link brokers and see for yourself if you think there is value in buying links. My opinion is simple and clear cut. I believe that it is generally a waste of time and money to purchase links from sites with a PR of 5 and below. And in many cases, the sites with PRs of 6 and higher carry a heavy residual price tag every month. Also be very careful on the sites you are purchasing links from. Be sure to purchase links from sites that relate to your business.

Now I'm not saying that there is never value in buying links; I'm just stating that you need to be smart about your link purchases and be careful on the sites you are purchasing backlinks from. If you can afford a link from a site with a PR of 8, then go for it. If you can only afford links from sites with a PR of 3, then don't waste your time or money. Instead, focus to acquire links from other websites through manual link exchanges. Don't use a web service that claims you join a link exchange network, instead contact website owners directly and ask to exchange links with them. This is also a great way to build relationships and potentially land new business.

Also consider writing articles and posting them on sites like Ezine Articles. This is a great way to build backlinks and credibility about your business at the same time.
