How to Get a Gold Rush of Traffic to Your Website
It's the million dollar question these days - how to actually get enough
traffic to your website. We get asked this so often that we wanted to address
some helpful tips we've learned as we've explored SEO (Search Engine
Optimization). Now it's not required that you've been doing online marketing
since Moses to be a real competitor in SEO. All that's required is a little
knowledge, dedication, and consistency. Below are some helpful tips you can
implement to get a "Gold Rush" of traffic coming to your website for free.
1) Keywords: The first thing that you need to determine is
which keywords you are going to optimize your site for. Meaning, which keywords
are most relevant to the topic of your website and will have the greatest
number of potential customers searching for them on a daily basis. For SEO purposes
you will want to look for long-tailed keywords that have the greatest search
volumes. These keywords may have less searches than broader keywords, but they
are much easier to rank for in the search engines. You can use Google's free
keyword research tool, or if you would like a much heartier tool use Brad
Callen's Keyword Elite.
2) Title, Tags, and Headers: This is often a step that is
overlooked. Make sure your title, tags, and headers are all including the
keywords that you are trying to rank for. Having the title right can really
give you an edge over your competition. If you do not know how to do this
yourself, come up with the title, tags, and headers and then give them to your
webmaster.
3) Links: One way to really boost your SEO ranking is to have
links from authority sites to your website. What determines an authority site?
Page rank. You can install Google's toolbar or use sites like,
http://www.googlerankings.com/, to determine a sites page rank. Article
marketing and social bookmarking are two of the best ways to get links pointing
back to your website. Think of each link pointing back to your site as a vote
for how relevant your website is. The more relevant you become the higher you
will rank in the search engines.
If you can stay consistent in these three main areas over a period of a few
months you will see your website begin to move up in the rankings. Just think
about it, if you posted one new article a day to different article directories,
in a period of one month you could have 31 new links pointing back to your
website. Now that's powerful! Just remember, the more material you've got out
there pointing back to your website, the more people will find it, and
consequently find you!
