As the Internet grows, the systems that collect and sort the immense amount of data needs to mature as well. As we move into the future, we see a trend - a trend of niches being formed to allow particular industries to gain access to information only relating to their type of business.

This trend has been widely seen through social networking via social niche communities like No.1 Artist, Joga, Orkut, and many more. But now we're beginning to see this trend move over to search engines to help centralize data more efficiently. More and more we are seeing niche search engines appear that allow certain industries to search for information strictly relating to their business.

Zia Zaman, Fast's executive vice president of global marketing, told ZDNet Asia in an interview that there is a growing trend of "targeted" search engines.

"We're seeing more and more 'honeypot sites' popping up--sites which search and collect targeted content, and traffic 'sticks' to them because what they do work for people," said Zaman.

In my opinion I think this is a great idea and offers people the opportunity to use a broad search engine like Google for generic purposes or to use a specific niche search engine like eBizSearch (an experimental search engine that focuses on a very small niche: academic and commercially produced articles and reports about e-Business) for their specific purposes.

Niche search engines are definitely the future. We will begin to see more niche search engines take hold as we begin to move into a more niche Internet world.
