Search engine optimization or SEO is one of the key components to any successful website or blog, and one of the best ways to achieve high search engine rankings-which will greatly increase traffic to your site-is by hosting only the highest quality content possible.

Sure there are other tricks and techniques that you can use to make your website more search engine friendly-and you should look into these methods by all means-but hosting quality content remains at present one of the most reliable and effective ways to do that.

There are number of methods that website and blog owners have used over the years in order to ensure a healthy flow of quality content. Probably one of the easiest ways to do that is by encouraging other people to submit content. Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Well it is, but how exactly do you do that?

For starters, you can host a discussion forum on your site. Almost everyone loves to share their opinion-even when you don't ask for it!-and having a blog is a sure-fire way to get it. Having a discussion forum on your website will not only help you get picked up by the major search engines, this will also give you an insight into your readers' minds and how you can serve them better. And of course, happy visitors will likely spread the word about your website or blog around, and this will in turn result in more visitors to your site. Keep in mind that you will probably need some software that will allow search engines to "see" any posts on your discussion forums.

You can also allow your readers to add comments on your blog. Again this will allow your readers to share a piece of their mind...in fact, you should probably be prepared for a few dissenting opinions or even spammers and troublemakers to come onboard! Not to worry: you can either delete these by yourself or you can pick up any one of the many software packages that allow you to filter any inappropriate comments or posts. Or you can implement a coding system that will allow only registered members of your site to post.

If you are selling a product or a service, you can ask your readers to post comments or reviews about them. Again you will be opening yourself up to the possibility of negative reviews, but you do intend to sell only quality products and services right?

Finally, you can also encourage your readers to submit relevant features and articles to your site. Many people will only be too happy to do this for free as a means of seeing their name in print...well, on the Internet at least! If your readers' response to your calls for content is less than enthusiastic, you can sweeten the deal somewhat by offering a prize or even cash reward for any approved article submissions. Oh, and don't forget to give the contributor credit for any article that you will use.
