Georgia Cold War Going On
Defeat in cold war against Americans through Afghanistan in 90s, the Soviet Union left parts of South Ossetia in control of an unrecognised separatist government backed by Russia. Other parts got in control of Georgia state of ex-USSR. This state got many favors from Unites States of America and western world including membership in NATO.
On the evening of 07 August 2008, Georgia launched a ground and air based military attack against South Ossetia's capital. Russian Federdation responded by sending reinforcements into South Ossetia and launching bombing raids further into Georgia. This time result was not in favor of US as it should be and Russian won the battle.
Russia pulled most of its troops out from the Georgia after sets of dialouges with European Union leaders especially French president as EU Supermecy also done a lot of efforts. However, Russia established so-called "buffer zones" around Abkhazia and South Ossetia and check points in Georgia's interior area of Poti and Senaki.
Georgia alleged on Thursday that Russia had deployed 2,000 extra troops in South Ossetia in the past week and was preparing to stir up more trouble in the breakaway territory. Moscow dismissed the charges. In the past week, Russia increased the number of troops by 2,000 to 7,000 staff, Georgian Interior Ministry claimed. USA and Georgia are in great fear that Russia is preparing to battle again with Georgia on the name of South Ossetia. However, Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergei Lavrov said all of Moscow's troop deployments to the region were declared.
Russia sent troops and tanks into Georgia in August to repel an offensive by the Georgian military to retake pro-Russian South Ossetia, which threw off Tbilisi rule in 1991-92. Their forces drove the Georgian army out of South Ossetia and then pushed further into Georgia.
The West condemned Russia for a ‘disproportionate response' and Russian troops have since pulled back from buffer zones around South Ossetia and a second breakaway region, Abkhazia. A EU mission is monitoring the ceasefire, patrolling the former buffer zone around Ossetia up to its de facto border. Now what will be next another war?
