Top tips when travelling with your dog

Here are some handy travel hints and tips to consider when you go away and take the dog too.

Make sure all vaccinations are up to date and you have enough medications to last for the whole journey - including any delays you may encounter.

Pack and take any medical records that you have relating to your dog.

Make sure Flea and tick treatment is up to date and doesn't fall due whilst you are travelling.

Make sure that your dog has a well fitting collar with ID Tag, including your home and mobile number.

Ensure your dog is Micro Chipped so you have better chances of being reunited if he wanders off.
Make sure that you pack plenty of water and bowl, more than enough for the journey, and even more if you are travelling abroad as he may not be able to drink the local water.

Food - if you are not sure what brand of dog food is available when you are away, take enough for the whole trip before you set off.

Feed your dog before travelling but leave at least an hour so sickness doesn't set in during the journey.

Take a long walk before setting off, the dog is more likely to rest and be calm if a little tired.

Make sure you plan in plenty of dog stops, make sure you factor enough time in, especially if you have to be somewhere by a certain time.


Lastly consider dog friendly accommodation when you are looking to go away with your dog. You will definitely have a better holiday with the dog.
