Let Him Hear

"And in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, ‘You will keep on hearing, but will not understand; And you will keep on seeing, but will not perceive; For the heart of this people has become dull, And with their ears they scarcely hear, And they have closed their eyes Lest they should see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And I should heal them.' But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. " (Matthew 13:14-17).

God's word is for God's people. I have had many conversations with non-believers who say that, they tried reading the Bible and when they reached the book of Numbers, they just quit. It made very little sense to them. What you must realize is that God's written word is for His believers. It is not probable for someone through the simple reading of the Bible to gain all of its understanding.

Two concepts are presented in today's Proverb. The first is; ‘to hear means to learn'. This means that you must have a teacher to teach the meaning of God's word. Unless you are strongly gifted by the Holy Spirit, you cannot gain an understanding of God's word alone and you must have a teacher. Second; ‘to see' is to be able to apply what you have heard (learned) to your own life and the lives of others.

A good example is a basketball coach. A coach has to be able, using words to explain a concept, e.g., a dribbling concept designed to free a player from a defender so they can get a shot off without it being blocked. But once you explain how to do it, you must also show the player how it works and/or the player has to continue to try to do it, repetitively until they eventually see the application.

Proverbs 20 - Teaches us today?

Proverbs 20:12 "(12) The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The Lord has made both of them."

Psalm 54:1-3 (Theme: Sinners All). "(1) Save me, O God, by Thy name, And vindicate me by Thy power. (2) Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. (3) For strangers have risen against me, And violent men have sought my life; They have not set God before them."

Today's question. How do non-believers find God?

The whole of God's creation points to Him. The beauty of a flower, the magnificent sunset, the majesty of an animal, the love of a pet, the miracle of planting seeds and enjoying the harvest. All of these things point to God. But He does not stop there, the beauty of man's creations also point to God. The melody of song, the words of a poem, the beauty of a painting and the wonderful words we enjoy written by others. God is only waiting for a non-believer to say; ‘I wonder' and begin to seek Him.

He is easy to find once you embark on your search. You do not have to look far and wide, nor search the depths of the sea or climb the highest mountain, or fight armies to get to him. All you have to do is just ask Him to come into your heart and He is as close as a thought.

Once you find Him, he sends part of Himself to you to be your Helper, Teacher, and Counselor, in the name of the Holy Spirit to be with you forever. Lastly, it does not stop there, now you want to mature in your spiritual understanding of Him. This is the purpose of His Bible and this is the passion of His Bible study teachers. God honors His teachers by letting us participate in helping people to hear and showing them how to see.

"He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (Matthew 11:15).

Dear God, there are so many who wonder about You not realizing just how close You are. I pray that they find you and thank you for your patience in receiving them all. Amen.
