Names of God

When the cares of my heart are many, He comforts my soul because I have known HIS NAME (S).

Sometimes it seems when we need Him most, God is out to lunch, gone fishing, or on an extended vacation. Our prayers bounce back from the ceiling, and we are in darkness about our problems. We long for God to "lean over the balcony of Heaven" and tell us what to do. We desperately need Him to turn on a few klieg lights to show us the way.

Isaiah 51 tells us what to do "when we are in darkness and have no light." We are told to "call upon the Name of the Lord". Early in the Scriptures God is known by His Name, Elohim, "the Most High God". Later He wants to reveal His Nature to His People and He begins to name Himself to them.

He wants a personal, one on one, relationship with us. He wants us to be on a first name basis with Him and He gives us the names for us to use when we call on Him with our specific needs.

He is Jehovah Joshua, our Helper.

He is Jehovah Jirah, our Provision, our supply.

He is Jehovah RoHi, our Shepherd, He is leading us.

He is Jehovah Rafael, our Healer in times of sickness.

He is Jehovah Siddecanoe, giving us His Righteous when ours is "filthy rags".

He is Jehovah Nissei, our Banner. Armies go into battle with the banner or their country at the forefront. He goes to battle for us as He deals with those who contend with us. He is an enemy to our enemies. His banner over us is love.

He is Jehovah Shalom, our Peace, our Well being, our Restoration.

He is Jehovah Shamma, the God that is "there". He is always "there" for us. He is the "Enough" God. If we have Him, we have enough.

He is Jehovah Impella, the God of the impossible. There is not problem too big for Him to solve. No mountain to high, no valley too wide, no ocean too deep, for Him to conquer.

He is Jehovah Ro-ee, He sees our problems and He will see to them.

Jahwah, strength of "me". He gives us His Strength "uzi" when we find ourselves running out of our strength, "kahil".

Emanuel, the God who is always with us. He never leaves us or forsakes us. He is an Invisible Presence always with us and as Elijah would say, "the Lord God of Israel liveth, in Whose Presence, I stand".

El Shaddai, as a mother cares for a baby at her breast, so He cares for us, meeting every need.

And of course, He is always Elohim. He spoke this world into existence. He can take care of you.

When in darkness without any light, call upon the Name of the Lord. He will be there for you.
