"For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted." (Luke 14:11).

"A high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc." (Dictionary.com definition of: Pride).

Pride is by far the biggest problem of men, women and children. Pride is one of the top three reasons for sin and perhaps the number one problem for all humans. Angels too are not immune to pride. It was Lucifer's problem, wanting to be greater than God that was the source of his downfall. His own thoughts were cherished as being greater than the thoughts of God.

How do we overcome the serious sickness of pride? What is the antidote? What can we do to get rid of this emotion that causes so much pain in our lives? The medicine we must take is humility.

Proverbs 11 - Teaches us today?

Proverbs 11:2 "(2) When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom."

Psalm 16:5-6 (Theme: Satisfied With God) "(5) The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; Thou dost support my lot. (6) The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me."
Today's question. Can pride destroy you?

To some extent, all of us have been negatively impacted by our pride. It is the failure to listen and take the advice of people who are much wiser. It is the joy we bring to ourselves that our thoughts are more cherished than anyone else's.

Stop. Think. Look back over your life and see where pride may have caused a problem in your life. To help you do this, examine the following list:

Pride of self-centeredness
Pride of a strongly opinionated mind
Pride of superiority
Pride of independence
Pride of ambition
Pride of spiritual vanity
Pride of naturalism
Pride of cynicism
Pride of boastfulness and criticism
Pride of sensitiveness, or self-pity

The Pride Cure: Take two aspirin, a tablespoon of humility and go to bed.

"He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?" (Job 20:7).

Dear God, help me become a better person by practicing humility. Amen.
