The Value of Words

"I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. "The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that thy might have life, and might have it abundantly." (John 10:9-10).

Today's Proverb 4:22, is about the Word of God. It can read, ‘The words of God are life to those who abide by them and they bring health and happiness to the whole of man; to his body, soul and spirit'. Jesus gave us this wonderful contrast between those who follow Him and those who follow Satan in the above scriptures. Without God and his teachings, mankind will do anything that is right in his/her own eyes. The result is barbarism, idol worship, cannibalism, incest, rape, murder, robbery and a whole host of terrible things. With Jesus and those that follow his laws, Jesus brings life, prosperity, health and a set of rules for mankind to follow.

Moses gave a similar message after he received the Ten Commandments, written the first five books of the Bible and was about to be taken up to Mount Nebo by God to see the promise land. "Then Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he, with Joshua the son of Nun. When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, he said to them, "Take to your heart all the words with which I am warning you today, which you shall command your sons to observe carefully, even all the words of this law. "For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life. And by this word you shall prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess." (Deuteronomy 32:44-47).

Proverbs 4 - Teaches us today?

Proverbs 4:22 "(22) For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their whole body."

Psalm 72:16-19 (Theme: Blessings On God's King). "(16) May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains; Its fruit will wave like the cedars of Lebanon; And may those from the city flourish like vegetation of the earth. (17) May his name endure forever; May his name increase as long as the sun shines; And let men bless themselves by him; Let all nations call him blessed. (18) Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. (19) And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen."

Today's question. Do you take the word of God seriously?

"They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb." (Psalm 19:10).

You would think that when we find Jesus and are exposed to His teachings, that we would immediately stop whatever we are doing and follow Him. This is exactly what his apostles did and they sat under him for three years to learn the meaning of His words directly from His lips. After Jesus left them to return to heaven, they continued to learn from the Holy Spirit and the written Old Testament for decades before writing the words that we now treasure in the 27 books of the New Testament.

The question: Why do we not take his words (teachings) more seriously. The answer is the same as a child's answer. We are too spiritually immature to recognize the value.

Dear God, if I am so spiritually immature to recognize that the value of the teachings written in the Bible are more valuable than gold and their taste sweeter than honey, then give me a greater measure of faith until I come to see the bright light of your words. Amen.
