"I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:7).

When, in high school, playing basketball, I hurt my knee and decided not to tell my parents thinking that they may not let me play anymore. I faked that I was not in pain and went to bed early. The following morning, my knee was the size of a cantaloupe and I could hardly walk. The problem; failing to get treatment early. The result was a painful rehabilitation of the knee which ultimately took several years to heal.

The same is true of sins that we try to hide. Often we hide our sins with money, activity, false witnessing and simply not paying attention to our Lord who cries out to us to repent.

In times past, if you were rich enough, you could pay someone else to serve your prison term. This Proverb says if you are a sinner you must face judgment yourself.

Proverbs 11 - Teaches us today?

Proverbs 11:4 "(4) Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. (5) The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, but the wicked will fall by his own wickedness."

Psalm 32:1-4 (Theme: The Testimony Of A Forgiven Sinner) "(1) How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered! (2) How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit! (3) When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. (4) For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer."

Today's question. Do you have someone who will serve your sentence?

Jesus is that person. After he suffered on the cross, died, spent three days in the tomb, he arose. Jesus paid the debt for all who believe in Him. For those who doubt, he offers: "The other disciples therefore were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I shall see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." And after eight days again His disciples were inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst, and said, "Peace be with you." Then He said to Thomas, "Reach here your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing." Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God." Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed." (John 20:25-29).

Dear Father, I am truly blessed, for my transgressions have been covered by the blood of Jesus. Thank you for helping me to stand up and shout that I am a sinner, to ask for repentance, and receive forgiveness as a cool drink, proving me with spiritual life everlasting. Jesus told us that we shall never thirst if we drink of His water. (John 4:14). Thank you for quenching my thirst, for I thirst no longer. Amen.
