As we know that artistic gymnastic is one of the three varieties that gymnastics occur. In artistic gymnastic, Men and Women, both are allowed to compete in this form of Gymnastics. Men participate in Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and High Bar, while women in Vault, Uneven Bars, Beam, and Floor Exercise. The apparatus used in these exercises are as under.

Vault

Each gymnasts run down a distance about 25 meter and land on a beat board , on the hands, on the vaulting horse or vaulting table, then spring to a platform of a two footed landing . Vaults are usually judged on the speed of the run, the length of the hurdle, the power and strength the gymnast.

In 2001 the traditional vaulting horse was replaced with a new apparatus, sometimes known as a tongue or table. The introduction of new apparatus makes it more stable.

Uneven Bars

On the uneven bars or asymmetric bars, the gymnast navigates two horizontal bars set at different heights. The height is generally fixed, but the width may be adjusted. Gymnasts perform swinging, circling, transitional, and release moves, as well as moves that pass through the handstand. In this routine bars play a role of apparatus.

Parallel Bars

Men usually perform on two bars which are at distance than a shoulder's width apart and usually 1.75m high.

High Bar

A 2.4cm thick steel bar raised 2.5m above the landing area is all the gymnast has to hold onto as he performs giants usually known as revolutions around the bar, release skills, twists, and changes of direction.

Balance Beam

The gymnast has to perform a choreographed routine from 60 to 80 seconds in length comprising of continuous leaps, acrobatic skills, turns and dance elements on a padded sprung beam. Apparatus used is such category is the beam which must be 125 cm high, 500 cm long and 10 cm wide.

Floor

The floor event occurs on a carpeted 12m × 12m square, usually provided with hard foam over a layer of plywood, and supported by springs or foam blocks generally called a "sprung" floor. This provides a firm surface that will respond with force when compressed, allowing gymnasts to achieve extra height and a softer landing than would be possible on a regular floor. Female gymnasts perform a choreographed exercise 70 to 90 seconds long while male 60-70 seconds. The music is instrumental and cannot include vocals in case of female gymnasts while there is no music in male gymnasts' performance. The female floor routines consist of tumbling passes, series of jumps, dance elements, acrobatic skills, and turns while a male gymnast has to show non-acrobatic skills also. A gymnast usually performs three or four tumbling passes that include three or more skills or 'tricks".

Rules require that gymnasts touch each corner of the floor at least once during their routine.

Compulsory levels of gymnastics have choreographed routines while in optional level competitions, all routines are different and have different floor music. .

Pommel Horse:

Men participate in Pommel horse .In this balancing act, gymnasts performs continuous circular movements around the horse while allowing only their hands to actually touch it.

Rings:

In this event the rings are suspended on wire cable from a point 5.75 meters off the floor, and adjusted in height .The gymnast must perform a routine demonstrating balance, strength, power, and dynamic motion without letting the rings to swing down.

In short, these apparatus have a lot to do with these gymnastics. Without these apparatus the artistic gymnastic becomes colorless and less entertaining for the spectators.

TRCB.com
