He invented many things, such as the lightning rod, the bifocal glasses, and the odometer. We are still using these in our lives today. Do you want to know more about these objects and how they are used?

The lighting rod is a long rod that prevents your house from catching on fire. Franklin proved that lightning is electricity. People believed that one of the Gods, Jove, punished you if your house caught on fire or you got injured. His invention made less people die. He was one of the first people to experiment with electricity.

The bifocal glasses help you see near and far in the same pair of glasses. Franklin was getting old, so he was getting tired of changing glasses. This is why he invented these type of glasses. If you look at the top part of the glasses, you will be able to see things that are far away. If you look at the bottom part of the glasses, you will be able to see things that are near you. The bifocals use to be called double spectacle.

An odometer records the distance that a car drives. When he was a postman, he needed a way to measure the distance from Philadelphia to Boston, so he invented the odometer. He invented it in 1763. They use to call it the hodometer.

Benjamin Franklin invented many more things. As you can see, without him, our lives would be way more difficult. He was a major American hero.

TRCB.com
