Dear Sir - The Saibo Invest Scam

As a frequent traveller, I maintain my own Internet Travel Portal, I call travel4roadwarriors It works out well enough for me, and if it helps someone else, great. As it is a fast and easy way for me to book my travel needs as inexpensively as possible (quickly), I'm happy with my Internet Travel Portal.

The amount of email I get there, hovers right about, zero. So of course I got curious when I got the following email:

Dear Sir
We received a formal application from a company who is called Saibo Investment Co.,Ltd is applying to register "travel4roadwarriors" as their domain name in Asia as well as in Europe on August 7, 2008.

During our auditing procedure we find out that the alleged Saibo Investment Co.,Ltd has no trade mark, brand nor patent even similar to that word. As an authorized anti-cyber squatting organization we hereby suspect the alleged Saibo Investment Co.,Ltd to be a domain grabber. Hence we need your confirmation for two things, `

First of all, whether this alleged Saibo Investment Co.,Ltd is your business partner or distributor in China.

Secondly, whether you are interested in registering these domains (The alleged Saibo Investment Co.,Ltd will be entitled to obtain a domain not needed by original trademark owner.) If you are not in charge of this please transfer this email to appropriate dept.

This is a letter for confirmation. If the mentioned third party is your business partner or distributor in China please DO NOT reply. We will automatically confirm application from your business partner after this audit procedure.

OK. I sorta laughed. That someone would bother to 'hook up' to my Internet Travel Portal that serves mostly, ME, is something to laugh about. However, I respond with:

Greetings to you. Saibo Investment has no connection with Travel4RoadWarriors. com, or .de

Please advise the domain type in question .Me, .China, etc.

This gets the prompt response:

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply which makes it clear that the alleged Saibo Invest Co,.Ltd is not your business partner in China. Our technology department has now frozen the domain as preservation

However, the domain is different from trademark, the trademark is sole and belong to only company or individual who registered it firstly. While the domain registration is basically following the principle that who register first who get first. As an authorized anti-cyber squatting organization we insist of offering priority to trademark owners.

Now it is getting interesting. I seem to remember something back in the last century about Internet keywords. Of course in todays web browser, it tries .COM first if you do not put a top level domain qualifier. And I forget about it and go about my life. 3 Days later, after I do not reply, I get:

I have not received your reply in any form so far which makes me wondering whether you still need these domains. If you are not interest in these domains we will confirm the application from Saibo Invest Co, .Ltd. If you want to register with your priority, I will send you the application form. But please reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

I don't bite. And 3 days after I do not reply to the nudge, in comes:

Dear Sir,

I have not received your reply in any form so far which makes me wondering you are not intrested in this domain registration even they are registered by a domain grabber.

What we want to inform you is that if any bad effects happened to your company in the future we will due no responsibility. We will finish the registration process for Saibo Investment Co.,Ltd in one week.
