The raft ride takes only a few minutes. At the dock on the island, guests can sit in rocking chairs and play checkers, or begin to explore the grounds. Maps are posted periodically -- be sure to check where you want to go, as paths meander every which way.

Ride Experience:
If you get tired of the crowd and are not ready to leave the park, this is a great place to explore. It also provides some great photo opportunities of Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and other attractions along Rivers of America. I have always been able to find new places that I had not discovered the other times I had visited the island.

What Disney Says:
"Venture across the Rivers of America and dock at Tom's Landing to embark on your mischievous, playful adventure. There are mysterious caves, swinging suspension bridges, rugged trails and a whole isle of smiles to discover."
Source: Disney World

Notes, Tips and/or Facts:
This attraction closes at dusk. Check your Times Guide for details. Bring a change of clothing for little ones who want to play in the dirt and water.

Aunt Polly's Dockside Inn tucked away in a shady spot overlooking the water serves up a limited menu of beverages, snacks and ice cream treats, making a nice, quiet getaway from the hubbub of the MAGIC KINGDOM. This restaurant is often closed during off-peak seasons.

Guests must be ambulatory to get around Tom Sawyer Island -- with its rugged terrain and winding paths, it is NOT wheelchair friendly.

Author's Comments:
Great place to escape the crowd and do things at your own pace. There are lots of shade trees as well as the caves to explore, so it gives you a chance to beat the Florida heat.

If you ever read the famous stories of Tom Sawyer and his friend Huck Finn, you'll know about their fence whitewashing exploit. Keep your eyes peeled for large bristle whitewash brushes scattered around the island. If you find one and turn it in to a Cast Member, you'll get special surprise -- perhaps a FASTPASS to a favorite attraction!

Matt Holley

TRCB.com
