Americanstudents are scoring poorly on standardized tests, and the governmentis taking notice. There are organizations and government-run programsthat are increasing efforts to promote education on these importantsubjects.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Millions of dollarsare being allocated for campus-based and online degree programs, toexpand the educational opportunties for STEM-related degrees. Studentswill be able to take advantage of these programs, and in turn receive amore comprehensive education.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Scholarships havealso been established in an effort to distribute financial aid forinterested students looking to expand their education with a degreeprogram and work toward a career in the areas of science andtechnology. These awards are designed to attract students into pursuinga career in these fields.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Officials are hopingthat the scholarship programs will encourage colleges and universitiesnationwide to design and implement programs in the areas of science,technology, engineering, and mathematics that will meet the needs ofbusinesses seeking to employ educated and knowledgeable employees. Aproposed plan will also provide tuition assistance to some collegestudents seeking to become educators themselves, in the areas of mathand science.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Several states areproviding several million dollars to colleges and universities to aidin increasing graduation rates, especially in STEM fields. Employers inthese industries are developing programs that would aid students in thepursuit of a career in these fields upon graduation. Students workingtoward technology related careers would benefit from some of thescholarship programs being launched specifically for their fields.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Thousand dollarscholarships are being awarded to students in high school and college.A total of five scholarships worth $7,000 are available through threedifferent awards. The Lighthouse Computer Services/Tech Collectivescholarship will provide two $1,000 awards to high school or collegestudents who are working pursuing careers in the IT industry and havesome affiliation with the U.S. military.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The company willpartner with Fibertech Networks to award a $3,000 scholarship to afemale high school student planning to enroll in a college degreeprogram in information systems, computer systems or another IT-relatedfield.
