Mr. and Mrs. Obama shared in avictory "Pound" as my generation calls it. Fist Bumping is not the term forthis action unless you're over the age of 85 and back in diapers. TheWashington post, New York Times, and every major news network and paper jumpedon the band wagon with the term fist bumping.

The current generation has many terms for the action of fistbumping. Calling it a "Pound or Bones" would be the more common terms used bycollege students. It is an expression of victory, achievement, happiness, joy,and mostly positive meanings. For some strange reason the current generation inpower "the baby boomers" like to continue with their PC term for this action. Itis more of a description of what is happening and less of what it represents. TheTime's decided to do a short history of fist bumping with little or no depth. They speculate on where it came from andderive it from a high five explaining how this is the idiots version of the highfive.

What they say it boils down to isa simple you really can't mess this action up unlike Tiger Woods who botched ahigh five with his caddie on national television in 2005 at the Masters. Almost every major form of media has looked upon fistbumping with major prejudice and distain. They speculate that it will becomethe new form of a hand shake. The business world is tweaking out about itclaiming it is somehow sexist against woman claiming some form of physical malesuperiority. What it boils down to is humans don't like change and the rate ofchange in the world around us is unprecedented in human history.

The fist bumpis an informal way that the upcoming generation expresses a sign of achievementor friendship. Anyone who can pull it off and not look like a dork should beallowed to do so unmolested by anyone else. It is not a sign of disrespect andnormally has no negative expressions unless you miss the other person's fist onpurpose and collide with his face. This would be called in our generationgetting punched in the face.

TRCB.com
