Certainly the firm has a great reputation for it anti-Spyware offering Ad-Aware. The firm deserves a huge 'atta boy' for having both a free and pay for versions of Ad-Aware.

Please note that the free version is for personal use only. Commercial use is not permitted. That's certainly fair! Sure, a tight belt is required in this economy. And its crazy to expect someone else to spend money developing a product so your company can have it for free.

Lavasoft continues with the launch of the Anti-Virus program, Helix. So far, a couple reviews have beat on Lavasoft for not having a free version. OK, not free is not exactly true. You can try it free for 30 days.

Then the 1 year price is $24. That comes out to 2 bucks a month. You can bring that down to just over a buck a month by going with a 3-year licence.

I'm not without some wishful thinking about Helix. The oldest version it supports on Windows is Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4. That is the last/latest W2K offering. It also supports XP (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The same is true for MS-Vista (32/64-bit).

Some reviewers have stated that the user interface isn't as friendly as some. OK.

What the geeks will really like is the 'expert-mode'. Personally, I'm thrilled it offers password protection to its settings. It seems only a matter of time before the bad guys find a really successful approach to changing the settings of an Anti-virus program so they can get in, undetected.

Regardless of your thoughts about LavaSoft entering the Anti-Virus camp, no one can argue that the price-point will keep the other vendors on their toes. Thanks LavaSoft.

TRCB.com
