Traveling to places like Mexico never required real documentation until recently. Even if someone finds out at the last minute that they are going to need a passport, they can use expedited new passport services to save the day.

The one thing that everyone should be aware of is that getting a new passport does take some time. Anyone that thinks the DMV is bad news has never applied for a new passport. In order to make this process as painless as possible, it is best to get the ball rolling right away and start gathering what they need and getting all of the forms filled out.

New passports must be done in person. Unlike renewals, the forms cannot be mailed into the proper offices. In most cases, this will require heading to the local post office. However, when expedited services are needed, the post office is not always the best route. Regional passport offices offer more services and can sometimes get a quicker turnaround time.

When getting a new passport, there are certain things that should be gathered before the process even gets started. First and foremost, the applicant is going to need a picture that can be used on the passport. While some passport locations offer this service, it may be a bit cheaper to use a local one-hour photo shop. Just let them know the purpose of the photo and they will crop it properly.

Since the applicant is going to at the office in person, it is less likely that they will encounter any problems. That is, as long as they have all of the proper documentation with them. The DS-82 passport application form will have to be filled out and then when it is turned in, they can tell the clerk that they are looking for rush service.

In addition to the regular fees for a passport, expedited service will run an extra $60. For the additional fee, the applicant will get their passport back in about three week's time. If it is approaching a heavy travel time, it may take a bit longer. This is why people are sometimes better off using the expedited service to guarantee that the passport will make it back to them in time for their trip.

While it is obviously recommended that the passport be obtained much earlier, it is not always possible. There could be an emergency that requires immediate travel that had not otherwise been planned. When this happens, there is no choice but to use one of the many expedited services that are offered to make sure that the passport is in hand when the time comes around to board the plane.

TRCB.com
