The some does not include the Apple iPhone user. Beginning March 31, 2009 you will be able to download software to make your Skype calls using the data plan of your cellular network. The iPhone and iPod Touch will only be capable of using Skype, when connected to a local wi-fi service.

Blackberry users will have to wait a couple more months.

Apple users should not be too surprised as all apps in the app store, carry the same restriction. Maybe this is why jailbreaked iPhone's are so popular?

As the New York Times reports, "the carriers are in the business of selling minutes".

Here's hoping both Apple and AT&T read the New York Times. It reported that tests in London over the past two years with Hutchinson 3 (a British mobile telco network) increased its revenue for each user. Since people were making calls on their cell phones using Skype. This is one of those less is more things.

My first cell phone carried $100 bill to have the number. Then it was a dollar a minute to use. We'll ignore the fact that it weighed 10 kg (22 pounds).

Needless to say, I didn't spend a lot of time doing audio social networking ;-)

Apple and AT&T, may I suggest you look closely at Hutchison 3 's results. They increased revenue.
Sometimes less is more. Maybe you will want to discover this before , Skype makes the software available to Blackberry users.

Sure, your losing revenue from minutes not sold. And Hutchison 3 has proven the bottom line is folks will pick a plan that includes the ability to use Skype voice, and not just at a Wi-Fi Hot Spot. I think the iPhone is cool. And you may find your AT&T/Apple iPhone isn't as cool as free wireless Skype calls.

TRCB.com
