There are strict security guidelines the State Department must follow when it comes to citizenship paperwork. Normally, birth certificates with raised seals or other documentation will be required. If a background check is done, expect to pay even more money.

Same day passport processes actually aren't all that difficult to learn and then follow, by the way. Many people, rather than go through those steps, tend to make use of one of many different expediting services that can be found on the Internet. If not using those, expect to have to travel to a regional center. Also expect to bring funds, new passports photos and proper documentation to that early-morning appointment.
