It'sa nice monochrome laser printer of modest size but with goodperformance on the printed by with the Samsung ML 1710PD toner.

It'salso very nicely priced, costing only around $50 or so. In fact, that'sprecisely the price a certain very popular consumer website iscurrently listing the Samsung at these days. It would seem that Samsunghas done its work well.

Samsung has constructed this particular ML printer to be a personalmodel, which means that it's fairly compact. In addition, it's alsosomewhat stylish and is easy to install, as well as being quite capableof delivering very nice print quality. Samsung has built in a greatdeal of versatility in terms of the operating systems it can operatewith, and most people who've used it invariably compliment it on itsspeed of printing.

At 15 pounds, the ML is fairly trim and svelte. At 14 inches by 14inches by 8 inches, nobody will ever complain that it's either porky orbulky. For those needing something that sits on a desktop or even abookshelf, out of the way but doing its job capably enough, the ML willbe sure to please. There'll be no trouble in moving it around, if needbe, in other words.

As far as print speed goes, this is a performance aspect where theSamsung ML does itself justice. It can print on A4 paper at about 16pages every minute and it takes 'A' size paper and churns out anadditional page in that minute. When it comes to what it can print outon, envelopes, card stock, labels and transparencies, as well as plainpaper, all fall under its aegis readily enough.

There's only a single way in which the Samsung can be joined to acomputer and that's through its well-working USB 2.0 port. Given thatit's the most popular form of wired connective technology, it'll be thecase that there'll be little to complain about on this front. There'sno included USB cable though, so one will have to purchase a separateone (it does come with a toner cartridge and an easy-to-follow setupguide, though).

Print quality is rated to be uniformly good with the Samsung ML. Itdelivers the goods at 600 by 600 dots per inch, which is more thanacceptable for the kinds of work this personal printer will probably beperforming. And with no evidence of smearing or blurring, anything putout will look clean and crisp under most circumstances. Given the costof this little Samsung, this comes as a bit of surprise, quite frankly.

Samsung has built the ML to handle about 250 pages of pager in itsstorage tray, and an output tray comes with the printer as well. Itstoner cartridge is ample enough, at about 3,000 sheets and it has amonthly duty cycle that comes in at 15,000 pages, meaning that there'llbe little cause to call in a maintenance technician to perform muchservice work.

When considering the Samsung ML 1710PD printer, consider that one willbe getting an inexpensive model for Samsung that's also compact, not alittle stylish and capable of delivering very good print quality at ahigh rate of speed. It can work off of most operating systems, including even the Linux suite. This is in addition to Apple Mac 8.6and later Oss, as well as most Microsoft platforms. In short, Samsunghas done a nice job on the ML.

TRCB.com
