Both documents may be obtained from a localU.S. Post Office location, a Passport Acceptance Facility, or U.S.Passport Agency. The online application may be found on the U.S.Department of State or private processing service Web sites.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt; Thepassport renewal process may be conducted entirely via mail only incertain circumstances.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Obtaining the application online is by far the easiest way and forthose who are more computer-savvy, completing the application online isrecommended. Once completed, the application should be printed out andsubmitted in-person to the proper agent in order to be processed.Additional documentation must be provided with the application.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The documentation includes proof of citizenship and identity.Documents such as a birth certificate and driver&amp;rsquo;s license will fulfillthe requirements. These documents must either be shown to an authorizedagent, provided in photocopy version, or both.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The applicant must present a certified birth certificate thatcontains a seal and signature of the city, county, or state registrarand must reflect the filing date. The applicant must also provide adriver&amp;rsquo;s license and a photocopy of it to the agent. Applicants who donot have a driver&amp;rsquo;s license may provide a government or military ID.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Some applicants may not possess any of this primary identification.In this case, Secondary identification should be provided incombination and may include a Social Security card, identification cardprovided by an employer, library card, and credit card. A witness mayalso present him or herself and complete an affidavit form. The witnessmust have known the applicant for at least two years and be a U.S.citizen or permanent resident.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The documentation requirements are listed on the government andservice provider Web sites. There are many alternatives if the firstset of requested documentation is not available, so read carefully.These Web sites also list the various fees involved for passportprocessing and all additional fees charged by private servicecompanies. Compare private companies in order to find a reputable onethat offers low fees.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;First-time passport applicants will need to visit an authorizedagent in person. All applicants will need to compile the documents intoone package and mail it to the service provider for processing. Twophotos of the applicant must be included in the package. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;These photosmust meet certain requirements in order to be accepted for inclusion onthe passport book.
